Three Ways to Study Personal Finance With Us
A year-long programme, a concentrated course, and a half-day introduction — each designed for a different stage of readiness and a different level of time commitment.
Back to HomeOur Teaching Approach
All three of our programmes share the same underlying approach. We teach personal finance as a body of knowledge that rewards sustained attention rather than a collection of tips. Each topic is introduced through its fundamental principles, illustrated with Malaysian examples, and examined in enough depth for participants to apply it to their own circumstances.
We do not use proprietary frameworks or branded methodologies. The material we teach — household balance sheets, asset allocation, Malaysian regulation and tax, retirement planning, estate considerations — is not secret. What we offer is qualified instruction, appropriate context, and enough time to absorb it.
Written materials are a consistent feature across all programmes. We send reading guides before each Foundation Year session, provide notes after each meeting, and give participants course materials to take home from the Half-Day. The goal is for participants to leave with something durable — knowledge and written reference that remains useful after the programme ends.
Instructors are available to answer questions during sessions. We do not operate a hotline or ongoing personal advisory service — but within each programme, there is time to address questions specific to participants' situations.
Foundation Year Programme
A year-long programme of monthly Saturday sessions for adults committing to a substantive grounding in personal finance — typically those in their forties beginning to think seriously about the second half of working life. Each month addresses one topic in depth, with written reading materials sent two weeks ahead and a four-hour seminar held on a Saturday morning at our Jalan Pinang premises. Cohorts are limited to twelve participants.
Topics covered across the year
- Household finance fundamentals
- Asset classes and their characteristics
- Malaysian regulation and tax
- Retirement-horizon planning
- Estate and succession matters
- The family financial conversation

Concentrated Six-Week Course
A six-week evening course for adults who would prefer a shorter, more concentrated study of personal finance fundamentals. The course is taught at greater pace than the Foundation Year Programme but covers comparable material in less depth. It is best suited to participants who already have some familiarity with the subject — perhaps from work in adjacent fields — and want to address specific gaps in their knowledge. Sessions are held on Wednesday evenings at our Jalan Pinang premises.
What the course covers
- The household balance sheet and cash flow management
- Asset classes: equities, fixed income, property, and alternatives in the Malaysian context
- Tax, EPF, and private retirement structures
- Planning for retirement: what decisions matter most
- Estate planning and the family financial conversation
Best suited for
Adults with some prior exposure to financial concepts — through professional work, personal reading, or adjacent experience — who want a structured survey of the key areas without the full year-long commitment.

Introductory Half-Day
A Saturday morning session for adults considering a longer programme who want to experience the teaching method and the material before making a commitment. The session covers the three substantive themes Tunas Wealth returns to throughout its programmes — the household balance sheet, the planning horizon, and the family financial conversation — using worked examples and providing written notes for participants to take home.
The session covers
The Household Balance Sheet
How to construct a complete picture of what you own and what you owe — the starting point for all subsequent planning.
The Planning Horizon
How to think about retirement timing, likely expenditure in later years, and what the numbers suggest about what you may need to consider now.
The Family Financial Conversation
How to approach money discussions with adult children, ageing parents, and spouses — a topic most financial education ignores entirely.
