An Institute Founded on the Belief That Financial Clarity Takes Time
Tunas Wealth exists to give adults in Malaysia the knowledge to make sense of their finances — without pressure, and without shortcuts.
Back to HomeThe Story of Tunas Wealth
Tunas Wealth was established in Kuala Lumpur by a small group of financial educators who had spent years working in investment management and financial planning — and who had noticed, in that work, a consistent gap. Their clients were intelligent, experienced adults in their forties and fifties who had accumulated savings and assets without ever having been taught the underlying framework for thinking about them.
The founders believed this gap could be addressed, not through product sales or brief seminars promising transformation, but through structured, substantive education delivered over time. The name Tunas — the Malay word for a young shoot or seedling — reflects that belief: financial understanding grows slowly, with proper conditions, and rewards patience.
The institute opened its doors at Jalan Pinang in 2019. The Foundation Year Programme was the first course offered, and it has remained the centrepiece of what we do. Over time we added the Six-Week Course for participants who wanted a more concentrated experience, and the Introductory Half-Day for adults considering a longer course who wanted to experience the teaching method first.
Our teaching approach is shaped by two convictions. The first is that adults learn differently from students — they bring experience, context, and specific questions that generic curricula cannot anticipate. The second is that personal finance, taught honestly, involves acknowledging uncertainty: markets behave in ways no one can predict, and the honest answer to many questions is that it depends.
We do not sell financial products. We are not affiliated with fund managers, insurance companies, or brokerages. Our fees cover instruction and materials, nothing else. We believe this independence is essential to the integrity of what we teach.
Our programmes are conducted at our premises in the city centre, in cohorts small enough for instructors to know each participant's circumstances. We are not a correspondence school, and we do not offer online attendance. The conversations that happen in the room are part of the education.
Our Mission
To give adults in Malaysia the knowledge, vocabulary, and frameworks needed to understand their own financial situation — and to make decisions about it with greater clarity and less anxiety — through education that is structured, honest, and adapted to the second half of working life.
The Faculty
Our instructors bring careers in finance, economics, and financial planning to the classroom. They teach because they believe in the subject, not as a supplement to advisory work.
Ahmad Hazwan
Lead Instructor — Retirement & Estate Planning
Spent fourteen years in private wealth management before joining Tunas Wealth. Teaches the retirement-horizon and estate planning modules in the Foundation Year Programme.
Suraya Ramli
Instructor — Household Finance & Tax
A former tax practitioner with a particular interest in how Malaysian households structure their finances across generations. Leads the household finance and regulation modules.
Lim Kah Wai
Instructor — Asset Classes & Market Context
Previously an economist at a regional research house. Responsible for the asset class and investment context modules, with an emphasis on how markets work rather than which ones to favour.
Our Standards
How we conduct ourselves and deliver education.
Independence from Product Sales
Tunas Wealth does not receive referral fees, commissions, or commercial arrangements from any financial product provider. Our income comes solely from programme fees.
Qualified Instructors
All faculty members hold relevant professional qualifications and bring substantive careers in finance, economics, or financial planning to their teaching roles.
Written Curriculum
Every session is supported by written materials prepared in advance. Participants receive reading guides two weeks before each seminar, and session notes after each meeting.
Data Privacy
Participant information is held in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Malaysia). We do not share participant data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Accurate Representation
We describe our programmes honestly, including what they cover and what they do not. We do not make claims about financial outcomes, investment returns, or results we cannot verify.
Participant Feedback
Written feedback is collected at the end of each programme. Instructors review responses and use them to refine subsequent cohorts. We take the quality of each session seriously.
Personal Finance Education for Malaysian Adults
The financial landscape for adults in Malaysia involves a specific set of considerations — the Employees Provident Fund and how to think about withdrawal decisions, private retirement schemes and their tax treatment, property as an asset class within a Malaysian legal and regulatory context, estate planning under civil and syariah frameworks depending on the individual's circumstances, and the particular pressures that accompany the years when retirement is no longer abstract but approaching.
These are subjects that benefit from careful, structured study rather than brief seminars or generic international content. Tunas Wealth was built specifically to address this gap. Our instructors teach from Malaysian examples, use Malaysian regulatory references, and understand the family and cultural context in which our participants make financial decisions.
The adults who attend our programmes are not beginners in life — they are professionals, business owners, and parents who have built careers and households and are ready to understand the financial dimension of what they have built. We design our courses accordingly: no condescension, no simplification that strips out the genuine complexity, and no sales agenda that might compromise the quality of the instruction.
